Registered Dietitian Schooling and Training
1. Starting in 2024, a Master’s Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.
The degree must come from an ACEND‑accredited program (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics).
2. 1,200 Hours of Supervised Practice (Dietetic Internship)
This is hands‑on clinical training in hospitals, community programs, and food‑service settings.
3. Pass the National Registration Exam
After completing the internship, they must pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) exam to become a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN).
4. Maintain State Licensure (varies by state)
Most states, require dietitians to hold a state license and complete continuing education to stay current.
Total Time to Become a Dietitian:
5–7 years of education and training.
